Steve Slattery joined The Fund for American Studies in 1992 and has been involved in all aspects of the organization’s growth since then. In his current position, he oversees all department heads and helps envision and establish new programs. During his tenure with TFAS, he has served as vice president for programs, director of development and director of international programs.
Since he joined TFAS when it was a small organization with only three programs, Steve has been very gratified to take part in TFAS’s incredible growth over the years. He is especially proud of the alumni programs that keep the TFAS family active and the founding and growth of the Capital Semester program. Watching students in all of the programs develop into successful leaders and being able to maintain relationships with those students has been very rewarding for Steve.
Before joining TFAS, Steve worked for business and political organizations including Citizens for a Sound Economy, a national public policy organization. He graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in economics from Tulane University in 1987 and received an MBA with a specialization in public policy from The George Washington University in 1990. Steve hails from Silver Spring, with parents and grandparents who grew up in D.C., so he is happy to call the D.C. Metro area home and have his family close by.
Steve has been a member of the board of the Tulane Alumni Association, which has more than 110,000 members worldwide, since 1998 and served as president from 2007–2008. He has received Tulane’s Alumni Volunteer of the Year Award and has served as president of the Tulane Club of Washington, D.C. In his free time, Steve enjoys getaways to Shady Side, Maryland, and New Orleans, as well as travels farther afield. He and his wife, Juli, are looking forward to trips abroad in the future. Steve is also an enthusiastic follower of horse racing, catching the Saratoga, New York races, as well as the Kentucky Derby, Belmont and Preakness as often as he can.
