//////////////////////

The group of 15 students from across the U.S. and abroad have already visited the U.S. Capitol, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, the Newseum, the National Portrait Gallery and the Pentagon. In the coming months they will visit the Supreme Court and even spend time volunteering at D.C. Central Kitchen.

Students have been attending upper-level classes on government and economics, accredited through George Mason University. Classes include: Constitutional Interpretation, taught by Professor John Samples of the Cato Institute, Economic Problems and Public Policies, taught by Anne Bradley of the Institute for Faith, Work & Economics and visiting professor at Georgetown, and Public Policy Seminar, taught by TFAS Alumna and Professor Karen Czarnecki (ICPES 88) of George Mason School of Law and Professor Richard Benedetto formerly of USA Today.

“I really enjoy our teachers,” said student Claire Johnson (CSS 14). “They are really experienced and they make every lesson a learning experience outside of their individual subjects.”

In addition to attending classes, students have been interning at organizations and companies in public policy, politics, economics, public relations and media.

Students listen to a presentation at The World Bank. Students learned about the Bank's functions, and statistics about poverty throughout the world.

Michael Sorge (CSS 14), a journalism student from SUNY Purchase, even got to attend the State of the Union with his colleagues from the Washington Bureau of Time Warner Cable.

“Being at State of the Union cemented that this (news) is what I want to do for the rest of my life,” Sorge said.  “It was definitely a cool experience.”

Capital Semester Spring students will graduate on April 2, 2014.
