The Frank S. Meyer Society consists of a group of leaders in the conservative movement. TFAS President Roger Ream is a founding member, and events are often held at TFAS Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The Meyer Society’s mission is to find ways to promote the conservative agenda. Throughout the year the Society meets to hear from conservative and libertarian political leaders. Recent guest speakers have included former Rep. Artur Davis (R-Ala.), Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.).

The Meyer Society is not only a place where political and theoretical ideas are shared; it is also a place where the future of the conservative and libertarian movement is born. Three years ago, then-Senator Jim DeMint joined the Society as its guest speaker. When he finished speaking, someone asked when he planned to run for president. DeMint locked eyes with Ed Feulner, former Heritage Foundation president and said, “The only thing I want to be president of is the Heritage Foundation.” According to Feulner, that meeting took place just weeks after he had informed his board that he planned to retire as Heritage president. It was then and there – at TFAS – that the idea of DeMint succeeding him was hatched. And the rest, as they say, is history!
