The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) is pleased to announce Kyle Hybl ’91, ’93 as the 2019 TFAS Alumni Achievement Award recipient. TFAS alumna, regent and professor Karen Czarnecki ’88 presented the award at the TFAS Leadership Retreat in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Hybl currently serves as president and CEO for El Pomar Foundation, an organization that promotes the viability of arts and culture, education, health and community service in the state of Colorado. He also is general counsel for The Garden City Company and chairman emeritus of the University of Colorado System, a board he served on from 2007-08.
As a member of the Air Force Civic Leaders Program, chairman of Police Foundation of Colorado Springs and corporate secretary for Junior Achievement, USA, Hybl has spent his career promoting the values of freedom and honorable leadership. His defense of these principles has contributed to his active involvement in TFAS’s programs.

A participant of the TFAS Public Policy + Economics program in 1991 and the TFAS International Prague program in 1993, Hybl attributes much of his passion for liberty and honorable leadership to TFAS and says that he is proud to share that passion with the next generation of his family.
“It was there I came to appreciate the importance of our freedoms and how the extent of our liberty is dependent upon those who make our laws at the local, state and federal levels,” Hybl told Colorado Politics. “It is gratifying to know that Sally’s and my oldest son and one of our nephews have also had the opportunity to benefit from TFAS’s meaningful programming.”
A fellow TFAS alumni peer nominated Hybl for the award for his continued involvement in the organization, including serving on the Board of Regents and playing an active role in recruiting future young leaders to TFAS programs. In addition to his service and involvement with TFAS, the award recognizes Hybl’s professional success, including his newly appointed roles as president and CEO of the El Pomar Foundation. Hybl’s nominator wrote, “Kyle has only recently been promoted to this position. To his credit, he maintains his approachable demeanor and humble countenance.”
In addition to accepting his alumni award, Hybl provided valuable insights during the retreat weekend over a panel discussion on “Emerging Issues in Philanthropy.” He was joined on the panel by Carl Helstrom of the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation and moderator David Stover ’77, a TFAS alumnus and Trustee.
