Match Exceeded: TFAS Supporters Raise $200K+ for Campus Journalism Efforts

//////////////////////

The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) is overflowing with gratitude for the incredible generosity of its supporters. In August, TFAS hosted a select group of friends for a Zoom meeting to share updates on our campus journalism programs, including the Center for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) and the Student Journalism Association (SJA), at the one-year mark of the program.

Students collaborate, discuss and exchange ideas during a session at the Student Journalism Regional Conference.

Following the discussion, a generous donor in California stepped forward to issue a “challenge match” of $90,000. This meant that if TFAS raised $90,000 for the journalism programs, the donor would match it with an additional $90,000.

Thanks to the overwhelming support, TFAS not only met this ambitious goal, but exceeded it. Over the month of September, six individuals stepped forward and their support, combined with mailed and online gifts, raised over $100,000. The anonymous donor then increased their gift to $100,000, and in total, the TFAS CEJ and SJA will receive over $200,000 in support for campus journalism programs.

Current and former TFAS Novak and Rago Fellows offer advice to students
during the Student Journalism Association Regional Conference in New York City.

These supporter contributions will have a profound impact on the lives of young aspiring journalists. This matching gift allows TFAS to continue offering world-class journalism training for students nationwide by expanding our programs, providing more resources to students and helping them develop the skills they need to succeed in the field.
