//////////////////////

The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) kicked off its largest, most impactful summer yet, welcoming more than 1,500 students and teachers set to take part in transformative programs. From hands-on internships in Washington, D.C., to immersive international and high school programs, TFAS is developing the next generation of courageous leaders.

D.C. Academic Internship Programs

This summer, TFAS is excited to welcome a new class of 286 ambitious students to its eight-week long D.C. Academic Internship Programs. Throughout the summer, these young leaders will immerse themselves in living, learning, interning and building connections right in the heart of the nation’s capital.

New TFAS friends explore the heart of Washington, D.C.

Over the course of eight weeks, students will participate in more than 150 events designed to complement their academic and internship experiences, including:

  • Site Briefings
  • Networking Events
  • Mentor Mixers
  • Capitol Hill Lecture Series
  • Embassy Visits
  • Monument Tour

Summer Law Fellowship

TFAS welcomed 28 law students to the prestigious nine-week Summer Law Fellowship. Through rigorous coursework at the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University, Fellows will deepen their understanding of the principles of a free society rooted in individual liberty, limited government, free enterprise and constitutional originalism.

Law Fellows engage with distinguished legal scholars during a session.

Fellows also participate in networking opportunities, career-building workshops, gain valuable insights from prominent judges, constitutional scholars, practicing attorneys, and put their knowledge into practice through hands-on legal internships.

This summer, TFAS will continue to host its Thoughts from the Bench Lecture Series, an event series with judges Gregory E. Maggs, Stephanos Bibas, Douglas Ginsburg, Chad Readler and Ryan Holte. TFAS will also feature the new Paul Windels III Lecture Series for the cohort. This special lineup of lectures from prominent legal scholars will cover important topics relating to jurisprudence and interpretation of the U.S. Constitution. The series is named in honor of Paul Windels III, the late husband of TFAS Board of Regents Chairwoman Catherine Barr Windels.

TFAS International

TFAS Prague 2024 participants discover the charming city of Prague.

TFAS will welcome 75 students representing over 25 countries to attend the three-week TFAS Prague program in July. Hosted at Charles University, the program will immerse students in key topics such as political philosophy, political economy and conflict resolution.

In addition, 25 participants from more than 15 countries will join the European Journalism Institute (EJI) program, also hosted in Prague, where they will engage with journalism industry experts and explore how covering religion is an essential part of public life as well as the importance of advancing individual freedom, human achievement and personal responsibility.

During both programs, participants will explore the scenic and historic charm of Prague.

High School Programs

FTE students participate in the Economics for Leaders program at Emory University.

TFAS’s high school division, the Foundation for Teaching Economics (FTE), is preparing for another action-packed summer, with 1,176 students and 278 teachers participating in 36 in-person and virtual programs across the country.

Offering a range of topics, each program introduces participants to the economic way of thinking and the principles of economic freedom, helping them understand complex domestic and international issues. In addition to economics, students will also enhance their leadership skills that will empower them to be agents of change. The 278 educators taking part in FTE’s teacher programs will learn new teaching strategies that will increase their effectiveness in the classroom. This summer, FTE will host seven teacher training programs across the country.

TFAS is excited to embark on another impactful summer as we continue shaping courageous leaders and sharing the principles of freedom with a new class of students and educators. TFAS programs are made possible by the generosity of our donors, whose support brings every lecture, internship and transformational experience to life.
