The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) was founded in 1967 to help instill in young people an appreciation for the American form of government and the free-enterprise system. TFAS offers students a comprehensive education that includes unique academic courses for credit, professional development and internships that provide hands-on experience. The ultimate objective is to encourage the vibrant, engaged citizenship that is necessary for a healthy democracy.

Today, TFAS conducts summer and semester-length academic programs in Washington, D.C. as well as international programs in the Czech Republic, Hong Kong and Latin America. These programs are led by outstanding faculty who present the ideas of freedom in the context of a particular region or field of study.

Additionally, TFAS hosts multiple programs to continue the education of its alumni after they have completed the institutes. TFAS also organizes journalism conferences around the country each year and sponsors award programs to encourage honest and objective journalism.
