IPJ Alumni Take On the TFAS Alumni Recruitment Challenge

//////////////////////

Institute on Political Journalism alumni certainly have been active in helping to recruit the next class of “IPJers!”

Ivy Villaflores (J 09) was happy to give IPJ Director, Joe Starrs, a report on her efforts at Arizona State University this fall as well as on how being a TFAS alumna has already helped her and a fellow ASU IPJ participant this past semester:

“Hi Joe,
I’ve been in touch with Nathan O’Neal who was another ASU student at IPJ this summer. He recently scored a great internship with the local NBC affiliate here in Phoenix, KPNX Channel 12. When he arrived for his interview he found that the person interviewing him, Heather Lovett Dunn (a morning producer there), was a TFAS IPJ alumna!

Jomain McKenzie (J 09) from Oklahoma’s East Central University has done a power point presentation for his fellow students about his experience this past summer with IPJ.

Also, I was recently at a Starbucks on campus and a woman came up to me when she saw I was wearing my TFAS shirt. She was from IPVS, and after striking up conversation, she asked for my resume and will be contacting me after graduation. I can’t believe how connected TFAS alums are – especially out here in Arizona!

Thanks so much for all of your help and support from this summer and even now – Nathan and I definitely pique people’s interests whenever we talk about IPJ out here!

Best regards,
Ivy”

Other IPJ alums have been busy are spreading the word on their campuses:

Ashley McGlone (J 08), who said she “never tires of singing the praises of TFAS and recommending it to others” contacted professors at her alma mater Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, CA.

In addition, at the recent IPJ Collegiate Journalism Conference held in Washington, DC, 20 IPJ alumni living in the D.C. area shared their experiences during round table discussions with 100 attendees from all over the country.

A big thank you to those alumni:
