Featured Supporter: Ed Young

For Ed Young, supporting The Fund for American Studies is just one of the ways he’s working to ensure that America’s founding documents and principles are preserved and taught to the future generation.

As a devoted American and patriot, Young dedicates much of his resources to advancing liberty. A longtime supporter of TFAS and similar organizations like The Heritage Foundation, Young is convinced there’s no better place to invest.

Young believes firmly in the importance of education and teaching people about the principles of a free society. In his quest to spread these ideals, Ed and his wife Louise have helped found an educational program at his former school, Mercersburg Preparatory Academy. Working with the Bill of Rights Institute, teachers are educating ninth through twelfth grade students on the U.S. Constitution and founding principles.

Young hails from York, Pennsylvania, where he has lived his entire life. Upon completing high school at Mercersberg Academy, Young attended Cornell University for engineering and graduated from Gettysburg College with a degree in economics and political science in 1948.

After graduating from college, Young ventured into general insurance. His successful forty-year career allowed him to be very active in the York chapter of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. It was through this venture that Young was able to help establish a program that allowed international students to come to America to live and study.

Young and his wife are travel enthusiasts, visiting locations ranging from China to east Africa and South America to the Pacific. They also enjoy sailing both the Chesapeake and the Caribbean.

These days the Youngs focus their efforts on educational programs like the one at Mercersberg. They currently reside in York, PA and have two daughters, two grandsons and two great-grandsons.
