The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) joins the nation in mourning the loss of Sen. John McCain.
In 2015, we were honored to present Sen. McCain with the TFAS Walter Judd Freedom Award for his lifetime of service to advancing the cause of freedom. During his acceptance remarks, Sen. McCain focused on the TFAS students in the room, devoting the majority of his time to answering their questions and highlighting the vital role they play in the future of America and setting an example of freedom around the globe.
“Right now we’re in a very difficult situation, but I have confidence in you and in the youth of America that we will maintain the greatness and the leadership that is vital to the world,” said Sen. McCain. “We are now seeing what happens in the world in the absence of American leadership. At some point not too far in the future, the torch will be passed to you, and I know that because of your experience in this program that you will be qualified to lead.”
