TFAS mourns the loss of alumnus and former professor Roy H. Ginsberg ’73, Professor Emeritus, Skidmore College, and leading scholar of the European Union, who passed away recently at the age of 71, due to complications of Parkinson’s and brain cancer.
Roy was a dedicated alumnus and steadfast TFAS supporter for decades. He often served on volunteer committees and supported special events, and he also taught the Comparative Political Systems course for TFAS students in the late 1980s.

In addition to his teaching, service, and support, Roy played an important role in strengthening the TFAS network by identifying and encouraging talented students to participate in TFAS programs, helping introduce new generations of young leaders to the transformative educational experience that shaped his own career.
TFAS President Roger Ream expressed a deep respect and admiration for Roy and reflected on his impact.
“We are proud to call Roy an alumnus of our program, Ream said. “We appreciated that Roy stepped into the classroom to teach TFAS students in the late 1980s. He had a distinguished career as a scholar and teacher, and his influence is both wide and deep.”
Throughout his distinguished academic career, Roy earned international recognition for his scholarship on the European Union and international relations. His work as a professor, author, and mentor influenced countless students and colleagues, leaving a legacy that extended far beyond the classroom.
The TFAS community is grateful for Roy’s lifelong friendship, service, and commitment to educating future leaders. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, former students, and colleagues.
