The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) will honor veteran journalists Neil Cavuto and Jan Crawford at its 33rd Annual TFAS Journalism Forum + Awards Dinner on Nov. 10, 2026, in New York City. The event will also celebrate 10 emerging journalists selected for TFAS’s Robert Novak and Joseph Rago Fellowship programs.
TFAS will present Neil Cavuto with the Thomas L. Phillips Career Achievement Award. The award is presented annually to recognize the accomplishments of a leader who has made significant contributions to journalism through a long and distinguished career. Past recipients include Mary Anastasia O’Grady, Lance Morrow, Brian C. Anderson and William McGurn.
Cavuto is an award-winning business journalist who served as senior vice president, anchor and managing editor of business news at Fox News for 28 years. Throughout his distinguished career, he has covered some of the nation’s most significant business and political events, including the Sept. 11 attacks, the 2008 financial crisis, the 1987 stock market crash and both Persian Gulf Wars. Cavuto is also the author of two New York Times best-selling books.
Alongside Cavuto, Jan Crawford will receive the Kenneth Y. Tomlinson Award for Courageous Journalism. The award is presented annually to recognize a journalist who has demonstrated excellence in reporting and a commitment to presenting the truth, often against tough odds. Past recipients include John Tierney, James Bennet, Benjamin Hall and Jimmy Lai.
Crawford serves as CBS News’ chief legal correspondent, where she has spent more than three decades covering the Supreme Court and legal affairs. She has earned recognition for her insightful reporting and commitment to journalistic integrity. Crawford contributes regularly to “CBS Evening News,” “CBS Mornings” and “Face the Nation,” as well as CBSNews.com. She is an award-winning journalist and author known for her extensive coverage of the nation’s highest court.
In addition to honoring Crawford and Cavuto, TFAS will officially recognize seven early-career journalists with the 2026-27 Robert Novak Journalism Fellowship Awards. Frannie Block of The Free Press; Faith Bottum, Rago ’21 of The Wall Street Journal; Mary Julia Koch of The Wall Street Journal; Gilbert Guerra ’20 of The Dispatch; Grayson Logue ’24 of The Dispatch; John Sailer of the Manhattan Institute and Liz Wolfe of Reason will each spend one year researching and providing in-depth reporting on topics surrounding the principles of a free society. Research topics include ideology on college campuses, how Gen Z compares with previous generations and America’s religious revival.
The three recipients of the 2026-27 Joseph Rago Memorial Fellowship for Excellence in Journalism will also be recognized: Moira Gleason ’25, Anatoly Grablevsky and Adam Pack ’26. Named in honor of Joseph Rago, a Wall Street Journal editorial board member who passed away in 2017, the Rago Fellowship awards aspiring journalists with a nine-month internship with The Wall Street Journal’s editorial page.
TFAS President Roger Ream ’76 highlighted the importance of recognizing journalists who uphold the highest standards of the profession and the vital role TFAS programs play in preparing the next generation of principled leaders in journalism.
