Journey begins in Santiago on Jan 14, 2018.
DAY 1: SUNDAY, JAN 14, 2018 – SANTIAGO
Welcome to Santiago! Upon arrival at Santiago International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Join the group for a welcome dinner at a special location with local chef, Sebastian Aracena, who specializes in reinventing typical Chilean cuisine. (Dinner included)
DAY 2: MONDAY, JAN. 15, 2018 – SANTIAGO
After breakfast, tour the beautiful campus of the University of the Andes. Sit in on a class with TFAS students attending the Institute for Leadership in the Americas (ILA). Enjoy a typical Chilean lunch with the students who hail from countries throughout Central and South America. During the afternoon, we will tour Santiago in areas including, the Plaza de Armas (with the cathedral and other monuments), Santa Lucia Hill, the presidential palace of La Moneda and drive up Cerro San Cristobal for a panoramic view of the city and the mountains. Dinner will be at Chile’s first wine bar, Bocanariz. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)
DAY 3: TUESDAY, JAN. 16, 2018 – WINERY TOURS
Enjoy a private tour of Santa Rita winery, one of the oldest wineries in Chile, with time to enjoy the garden and visit their interesting museum with great collections of Pre-Columbian artifacts and old maps. Afterward, we will travel to a smaller, more modern boutique winery in the Maipo Valley to see the diversity of Chilean wine producers. Dinner will be at Quintral, a gourmet Chilean restaurant in the lively Lastarria district of Santiago. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)
DAY 4: WEDNESDAY, JAN. 17, 2018 – VALPARAISO
Enjoy the scenic landscape as we travel from Santiago to Valparaiso, a 16th century port city declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Upon arrival, join TFAS students once again on a tour of the Chilean Congress and a private briefing by congressional members. Lunch will be with the students. After lunch, we will travel through several wonderful viewpoints located in the lovely hills of Valparaiso. There will be time for shopping in the little stores in Cerro Concepcion and Cerro Alegre. We will have an early dinner before traveling back to Santiago. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)
DAY 5: THURSDAY, JAN. 18, 2018 – PUERTO NATALES
After breakfast, we will transfer to the airport and fly to Puerto Natales. After a light lunch at the hotel, we will visit a typical estancia (ranch) and meet with local gauchos. We will enjoy a traditional dinner at the estancia with the famous cordero al palo (Patagonian lamb). (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)
DAY 6: FRIDAY, JAN. 19, 2018 – TORRES DEL PAINE
Welcome to the land of beautiful and diverse landscapes! Prepare for a full day of touring Torres del Paine National Park. Walk through the Milodon Cave, where in 1895 remains of extinct animals were found, such as the saber-toothed tiger, the American horse and a large mammal known as Milodon. We will break for lunch before seeing the Salto Grande waterfall and walking to the breathtaking viewpoint of Lake Nordenskjold (depending on weather conditions). Dinner will be at the hotel. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)
DAY 7: SATURDAY, JAN. 20, 2018 – TORRES DEL PAINE
Be prepared for another day of adventure as we navigate Lake Grey by boat to get a closer view of the glaciers and the icebergs. Lunch will be at Hosteria Grey and dinner will include a folkloric show at Ancestros Patagonia. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)
DAY 8: SUNDAY, JAN. 21, 2018 – RETURN TO SANTIAGO
Say goodbye to Puerto Natales and travel back to Santiago. The afternoon will be at your leisure, but we will gather for a farewell dinner with a local sommelier. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)
DAY 9: MONDAY, JAN. 22, 2018 – ALPACA RANCH
For those who are not continuing the adventure to Easter Island, you will have your morning free, provided that your flight home leaves in the early evening. Before being dropped off at the airport, tour an alpaca ranch were you will see the animals, the workshop and its final products (Breakfast included)
